April showers
Brings a huge freakin mess.
It was back to snow this morning. Yesterday was a freakish day. I drove to work in wind-drive blinding rain. Less than an hour after I got there I got a call from Sarah that the power was out. yay. Don't you just love having no power? No water. No heat. No flushing the toilet. yada yada yada
Actually I had planned head. ALL of my dishes and laundry were caught up. I mopped the floors and vacuumed. I even stripped mine and sarah's beds and washed the sheets. I filled the tubs with water for flushing. I had the lanterns out on the bar along with the clicker. I was ready. Bring it on.
Well bring it on she did. Mother Nature is a nasty bitch. She blanked out my power which stopped my sump pump from working which stopped pumping excess water out of my basement which then flooded. *long frustrated sigh*
The water was rising by the minute so I made a hasty decision to go to Lowe's and buy a generator. I needed some power source to start getting rid of the water. My ex called as I was asking the sales rep about the generators. He had a friend who said I could use his. Yay (in a good way) The ex got it all hooked up and filled with fuel. Just as he was pulling the rip cord the power came back on. Gotta love the timing.
He and his friend helped me squeegee the water and sweep it toward the pump. They helped me get a few things up to higher ground. All in all they were a big help.
My brother and daughter are major slobs. Remember how I said that ALL the laundry was caught up?? Not even close now. Heather didn't have any clothes in her drawers. They were all on her floor in a pile and now they are all wet and need to be washed. My brother's room was even worse. He hadn't made his bed, ever. The blankets and comforters were hanging off the edge of the bed which sucked the water up into them and onto part of the mattress. He had dirty clothes on the floor under his bed. All my missing dishes and glasses and silverware were around his computer with some life force living in them that I didn't recognize. I was able to collect my gas money this week just from his empty bottles. He hadn't picked up his dog's pee pads and they had poop on them. 2 of them were full of shit. My ex was so disgusted that he kicked them aside in the water and scattered the turds all over the floor.I quietly and calmly went and got the paper towels and cleaned it all up.The ex was ranting about what a slob my bro is. Which I agree with. But why make it worse by scuffing dog shit all over the floor, knowing I would be the one who would clean it up?
My bro also hasn't paid rent and he hasn't worked for 2 weeks which means he won't pay this week or next. yet he has free time to go meet a girl from the internet and stay with her for a few days. When he comes home there will be a strong talking to and probably an invitation to leave. No rent+ dog shit+ dirty dishes+ over all slobbiness= eviction.
God I can't wait for May flowers. Bring on the sunshine.

i'm glad you got some help with the basement... man what a mess huh? my basement flooded the first year i lived in this house, we had a wicked el nino that year. i turned on the heater and heard the fan gurgling in the water, i found the sump pump floating around inside a bucket.
stick to your guns with the bro.
hugs
Wow. You've had a busy few days!
I hope that I never have to deal with a basement flood. And if my sister ever moved in here she'd be every inch the slob that your bro is. Maybe even worse. :)
Oh boobabe, I'm sorry about your mess, but so glad you had help. My sister is a huge slob. We love her, but lets just say that when it's time to pick whose house will host the family Christmas gathering, hers is never even mentioned.
After my basement flooded for the 5th time the first year we moved in, I was a crazy person. I threatened bodily harm to my Husband if he didn't figure something out.
Battery back-up saved his ass & my sanity. You need a battery back-up for you sub-pump. It was worth spending the money because good heavens, a generator is expensive. (but we bought a small generator too incase the battery back up failed.
OH! and word of advice, no matter what anyone says, the "ace in the hole" battery back-up SUCKS ASS. Buy a different brand.
*hugs*
